Assault - Male charged after attempting to assault an officer

An incident at Sherkston Shores over the weekend highlighting the dangers police officers face while on duty.
 
The incident happened in Port Colborne in the early morning hours of July 15 when two Niagara Regional Police uniform patrol officers were called to the patio of a bar at Sherkston Shores over two males sleeping in the area.
 
When the officers attempted to wake the pair, one suddenly turned violent, lunging at the officer and attempting to grab his gun to disarm the officer.  The suspect then lunged at another officer before he was arrested.
 
The male has been charged with Assault Police, Disarming a Police Officer, and Assault with a Weapon.
 
The suspect cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth and Criminal Justice Act.
 
The officers were not seriously hurt in the incident.
