Traffic Collision - Fail to Remain Collision with Serious Injuries – Update 1

On August 17, 2019, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a report of a serious collision in the area of Concession 7 Road and Line 6 Road, in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Detectives from Collision Reconstruction and Forensics Services Units continued the subsequent investigation.  The investigation has learned that at approximately 10:52PM a 33 year old (corrected from original) woman from Niagara on the Lake was the victim of a fail to remain collision.

The victim had been on foot at the side of the southbound lane of Concession 7 Road.  The victim was struck by a southbound dark coloured pickup truck.  The pickup truck did not stop and was last seen driving southbound away from the scene.

The victim was transported to an out of region hospital in critical condition.  On August 19, 2019, the victim died in hospital due to her injuries.

The suspect pickup truck is believed to have sustained damage to the passenger side as debris was found at the scene.  The truck may be missing the passenger side mirror.

Detectives are appealing to members of the public and collision repair businesses in the area to be aware of the damage and to report any vehicle that may match the description.

Residents and businesses in the area of the collision with closed circuit cameras are asked to review their footage for the suspect pickup truck.

Original Release - August 18, 2019

On Saturday August 17, 2019 at about 10:52 pm officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara EMS Paramedics and the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire Department responded to Concession 7 Road and Line 6 Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake for the report of a person struck by a vehicle.  Upon arrival officers located a 35 year old female with critical injuries. 
 
The vehicle involved in the collision did not stop and was last seen south on Concession 7 Road.  The female was transported to NHS-Niagara Falls by EMS and was later transferred to an out of region trauma center.

It is believed the offending vehicle is a dark coloured pick-up truck, possibly a Dodge Dakota with a loud muffler and tinted windows.  The truck is believed to have front end damage and possibly missing a side mirror.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Niagara Regional Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit at 905-688-4111 extension 5600.
