The recruiting procedure for an auxiliary officer is similar to that of a regular police officer. The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) expects and accepts nothing less than the best.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have the following:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada 
  • 18 years of age or over
  • Able to successfully complete standard physical fitness tests
  • Successful completion of Ontario Grade 12 (OSSGD) or its equivalent
  • Valid non-probationary drivers license, class “G” or inter provincial equivalent
  • Free of criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted, and
  • Be of good moral character

Physical Test

If you pass the written portion, you may advance to the next stage in the recruitment process, the physical. This test involves running, push-ups, core, and flexibility. Applicants must follow the proper procedures when performing each component.

Physical standards for females:

Age 20-29

Age 30-39

Age 40 & over

  • Maximum level 9.5 (shuttle Run)
  • Maximum level 8/9 (shuttle run)
  • Maximum level 6.5 (shuttle run)
  • 38 pushups (modified)
  • 37 pushups (modified) or more
  • 33 pushups (modified) or more
  • 3:00 minutes (core endurance)
  • 3:00 minutes (core endurance)
  • 3:00 minutes (core endurance)
  • 46 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 46 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 44 cm. or more in sit and reach

Physical standards for men:

Age 20-29

Age 30-39

Age 40 & over

  • Maximum level 12 (shuttle run)
  • Maximum level 10.5/11.5 (shuttle run)
  • Maximum level 9 (shuttle run)
  • 49 pushups
  • 37 pushups
  • 31 pushups
  • 3:00 minutes (core endurance)
  • 3:00 minutes (core endurance)
  • 2:45-3:00 minutes (core endurance)
  • 45 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 44 cm. or more in sit and reach
  • 41 cm. or more in sit and reach

You will require the OACP Consent and Release of Liability Waiver signed and witnessed.

You will be required to submit the OACP Consent and Release of Liability Waiver and your Educational Transcripts during the application process.
