On May 24th, 2023, at 12:36pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 3 District (Welland / Pelham) responded to the CIBC Bank located at 200 Fitch Street, in the City of Welland regarding a robbery that just occurred.
Upon arrival, officers determined the lone male suspect entered the bank, brandished a handgun, and demanded cash from the employees. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency before fleeing the area on foot. No employees received any physical injuries.
The NRPS Canine Unit and Emergency Task Unit attended the scene. The suspect is believed to have fled eastbound toward the Steve Bauer Trail that runs adjacent to Prince Charles Drive.
The suspect is described as follows:
- Male
- White
- Approximately 5’4” tall
- Approximately 40 years of age
- Grey hair or possibly wearing a grey wig
Detectives assigned to the 3 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation. They are being supported by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.
