On June 29, 2022, at approximately 1:28pm, 8 District – Grimsby uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred in West Lincoln (Smithville).

Officers attended to the area of Griffin Street North and St. Catharines Street where they met the victim and bystanders.  The victim, a female in 70s sustained minor injuries during the robbery was treated by paramedics from Niagara Emergency Medical Services.

The initial investigation determined the victim had parked her sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the area of Convenient Street and Brock Street.   When she opened her door to exit, she was met by a masked male asking for a ride.  When the victim declined, the masked male demanded her keys and threatened the victim.  The suspect threw the victim to the ground multiple times as they struggled for her keys.  The suspect was able to get the SUV keys and briefly entered the passenger side front door.   As bystanders converged on the SUV the suspect ran from the area.  The victim’s dog had been inside the SUV at the time of the incident.  A bystander ran after the suspect and caught him briefly, during which the SUV keys were recovered, and the suspect’s red hoodie sweatshirt was pulled from his body.  The suspect was able to escape. 

8 District detectives have been assigned to the investigation.

The suspect is described as:

  • White male
  • Approximately 5'5
  • Approximately 15-20 years old
  • Wearing a black mask and possibly a black shirt
  • Black pants
  • Had been wearing a red hooded sweater

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 1:00pm and 2:00pm on June 29, 2022.
