Payment Policy Adjustment

Effective October 1, 2018

Please be advised that effective October 1, 2018 payment may be made by Debit, Visa or MasterCard.

Cash will no longer be accepted.

A PVSC may be required for the purpose of:

  • Employment
  • Volunteering
  • Student field placements
  • Home stay programs
  • Kinship or Foster care providers

The PVSC is intended for applicants who will be in a position of trust or authority over children or vulnerable persons in Canada only.  (This means more than just having contact with children or vulnerable persons).

Please review the Information for Agencies or Information for Applicants document above for more details on what type of information (incidents, charges, etc.) is included on the PVSC.

The applicant applies to the police service where he/she lives. The applicant will be required to provide the police service with the following information:

  • A description of the position
  • The name of the organization staffing the position
  • Details regarding the children or vulnerable persons

The police service conducting the vulnerable sector check may ask for more information. The police service will use this information to determine if the position meets the legal requirements to conduct a vulnerable sector check. If the position does not meet the requirements of the Criminal Records Act for a vulnerable sector check, it is illegal for the police service to conduct one.

The police service will conduct name based checks of all of the data bases. In some cases the applicant will be required to submit fingerprints for identity confirmation. The use of fingerprints ensures the accuracy of the identification process.

Due to a change in RCMP policy, effective December 5, 2010, we can no longer accept requests for a PVSC from persons residing outside of the Niagara Region. You must attend the police service that serves the municipality in which you reside. Students with a temporary school address in the Niagara Region must provide the current local address and proof of address (copy of lease agreement, utility bill, etc.) in order for us to process their PVSC.

A PVSC can only be processed for applicants 18 and over who will be working or volunteering in Canada for a Canadian agency. As per RCMP policy, we cannot process a PVSC for applicants who will be working or volunteering outside of Canada or for applicants who need to obtain the PVSC for a foreign agency.
