Duties

Auxiliary officers are required to volunteer a minimum of 12 hours a month and attend monthly training seminars.

How an auxiliary dedicates time to the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) and their community vary upon the duties they sign up for. There are new duties each month, suited to all skill levels.

Community Events

The primary function of an auxiliary officer is assisting in:

• Parades
• Festivals
• Special Events (i.e. concerts)
• Presentations (i.e. Niagara Safety Village)

 Emergencies

Officers are called out in the event of an emergency. The emergency can range from a missing person to a disaster. These emergency alerts can come at any hour of the day or night and auxiliary officers are expected to attend as soon as possible.

The NRPS Chief of Police may authorize an auxiliary officer to perform police duties in special circumstances, including emergencies.

Patrol

Auxiliary officers can participate in different ride-a-longs options with police officers:

• bicycle
• foot patrol
• marine
