Aggressive Dog Shot and Killed by NRPS Officer – Niagara Falls
On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m. uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) responded to the area of Thorold Stone Road and Kalar Road in Niagara Falls for reports of multiple aggressive dogs on the loose.
Several calls were received about three dogs running around in traffic and chasing pedestrians. Further information was that one dog had bitten an adult male. That male was treated for minor injuries. Several cars and people attempted to assist with corralling the dogs. One dog scratched and damaged an SUV.
Officers arrived on scene and tried to control the large breed dogs. One dog advanced aggressively towards an officer pushing them into traffic. That officer shot the dog with their service rifle. The dog died on scene.
The other two dogs were captured. The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society attended and took over the investigation into the initial dog bite and any violations regarding the dogs on the loose. The two captured dogs were returned to the owner and there is no further threat to the public at this time. The deceased dog was taken from the scene by the SPCA.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service’s 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1022200.
