Easter Long Weekend RIDE Initiative Results in Four 7-Day Roadside Suspensions
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks in the cities of Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.
Throughout the night, officers stopped approximately 320 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening. In total, 35 drivers were required to provide a sample of their breath for analysis. Four drivers provided a sample which resulted in an “Alert”. All four of these drivers received a seven-day licence suspension.
In addition to the licence suspensions, officers issued fifteen Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) to drivers for various traffic related offences. One of those Provincial Offences Notices included a driver charged with Drive While Suspended. That driver had their vehicle impounded for seven days. A second driver was arrested and charged with breaching a Provincial Probation Order.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.
