One Impaired Driving Arrest During New Year’s Eve RIDE
On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks in the Cities of Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.
While on patrol in the City of St. Catharines, police stopped a vehicle to check the sobriety of the driver. The ensuing investigation revealed the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested. As a result, a 36-year-old female from the City of St. Catharines was arrested for impaired driving and subsequently provided breath samples over 3 ½ times the legal limit.
Police also stopped approximately 230 vehicles throughout the night and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening. In total, 13 drivers were required to provide a sample of their breath for analysis. Each of these drivers provided an acceptable breath sample and were free to leave.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.
