Police Response to Firearm-Related Incident in Welland

On December 13, 2025, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) was contacted by Peel Regional Police regarding a male suspect wanted in connection with a domestic-related incident involving a firearm that occurred in Mississauga on December 12, 2025. 

Through continued investigation it was determined the suspect was at a residence in the City of Welland. 

Out of an abundance of caution, additional police resources were deployed to the area to ensure public and officer safety. 

Following an interaction, an officer discharged their firearm, the man was then pronounced deceased. 

There is no ongoing risk to public safety.

Due to the officer involved shooting, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate, and no further information can be provided with regards to the circumstances around the shooting.
