Shooting in Welland – Second Street and Plymouth Road - Ongoing Updates

Shelter in place remains in place for residents in the immediate area. 

Staff have been evacuated from Plymouth Public School and St. Mary Catholic Elementary School. 

The hold and secure has also been lifted at Welland Hospital. 

This remains an active police investigation with the male suspect contained. 

Stay out of the area.

At this time, the hold and secure has been lifted at the Welland Hospital, however access is restricted due to road closures in the area.

We are currently on scene in Welland responding to a shooting incident. Officers are actively working to make the area safe. A shelter-in-place order has been issued, and schools in the area, as well as the local hospital, are currently in lockdown.

For media attending the area, a designated media staging point has been established at the City of Welland Community Centre, 145 Lincoln Street, Welland.

Shelter in Place remains in place - All residents in the affected area are urged to continue to stay inside and lock their doors until further notice.

Avoid windows and do not leave your residence unless directed by police.

As firearms were discharged by officers during the initial interaction, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and they have invoked their mandate.
