Weekend R.I.D.E. Program Results in 3 Licence Suspensions
On Saturday, December 27, 2025, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks in the City of St. Catharines.
Officers staged both stationary and mobile checkpoints and stopped approximately 430 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed alcohol, drugs or intoxicating substances.
In total 19 drivers were required to submit to further testing. 2 of those drivers provided samples of their breath that resulted in 3-day suspensions on their licence. 1 additional driver, who was bound by novice driver’s licence restrictions, provided a sample of their breath which displayed an alcohol concentration above 0 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood, and faced subsequent charges and a licence suspension.
Police issued 9 Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) to drivers for various offences, including driving with no licence, expired permit, failing to wear a seatbelt, and driving while having a child not properly secured.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like RIDE.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
This initiative has been made possible, in part, because of funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.
