  • UPDATE #3 – Detectives Seek Driver and Bicycle Owner in Ongoing Investigation - Pelham

    Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 53-year-old Pelham resident. Detectives would like to thank members of the community for their assistance in helping to identify the driver and vehicle involved in this incident.

    This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, dial option 3, extension 1009569.

    Members of the community who wish to provide information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or by calling 1-800-222-8477. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards to people who contact the program with information which leads to an arrest.

  • Fatal Collision Involving Pedestrian – Welland

    On Sunday, August 24, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m. uniform members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) assigned to 3 District (Welland/Pelham) responded to the area of Niagara Street and Roger Drive in Welland for a reported for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

    The initial investigation determined that a silver Honda Civic was travelling south bound on Niagara Street when a collision with a pedestrian occurred. Tragically, the 73-year-old male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.

  • NRPS Investigating Serious Assault – St. Catharines

    On Saturday, August 23, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m. uniform members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) responded to the area of Vine Street and Holden Street in the City of St. Catharines following reports of an assault.

    The initial investigation determined that a male youth was walking on Vine Street near Holden Street when three male suspects exited a smaller, black SUV that had been parked on Holden Street. One of the suspects armed with a baseball bat, assaulted the victim until he fell to the ground and lost consciousness. The suspects then fled the scene in the SUV, last observed travelling northbound toward Carlton Street.

  • Grandparent Scam Advisory

    The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) are warning members of the community to remain vigilant as fraudsters continue to carry out the “Grandparent Scam.”

    In this scam, suspects typically contact elderly victims by telephone, posing as a grandchild or another family member. The caller claims to be in urgent legal trouble, often involving a motor vehicle collision or criminal charges, and requests immediate financial assistance. In some cases, a second individual posing as a police officer, lawyer, or legal official will join the call to reinforce the deception.

  • UPDATE #2 – Detectives Seek Driver and Bicycle Owner in Ongoing Investigation - Pelham

    On Friday, August 15, 2025, the cyclist, a 53-year-old Pelham resident, succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

    Detectives are seeking dashcam, cellphone, or other surveillance footage recorded between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Welland Road, between Effingham Street and Haist Street in Pelham, that may have captured the white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact investigators.

  • Police Seek Public Assistance in Fraud Investigation

    On Thursday, July 4, 2024, uniform members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) responded to a fraud call.

    The initial investigation determined that business emails had been compromised resulting in the diversion of payments totaling several hundred thousand dollars.

    Detectives with the NRPS Central Fraud Unit continue to investigate this matter. A suspect has been identified, and detectives are requesting the community’s assistance in determining their identity.

  • UPDATE 2 - Detectives Investigating after a Pedestrian was Struck in Niagara Falls

    On Thursday August 14, 2025, the pedestrian, a 63-year-old Niagara Falls man, succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

    Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Collision Reconstruction Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Branch, are now investigating this as a hit-and-run fatality.

    Detectives are seeking dashcam, cellphone, or other surveillance footage recorded between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Dorchester Road, between Lundy’s Lane and McLeod Road in Niagara Falls, that may have captured the suspect vehicle. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact investigators.

  • Niagara Regional Police Service Warns Citizens About Ongoing Fraud Schemes

    In response to an alarming rise in fraud schemes, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is urging residents to remain vigilant and safeguard their personal and financial information.

    Fraudsters are increasingly using sophisticated techniques to exploit individuals. Common scams include:

    • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scams: Scammers impersonate government officials, claiming taxpayers owe money and must pay immediately.
    • Grandparent scams: A scammer pretends to be a relative in distress, urgently requesting money.
    • Bank investigator scams: Fraudsters pose as bank employees investigating suspicious activity.
  • NRPS Investigating Theft of Jewellery – St. Catharines

    The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) office is investigating a significant theft of jewellery from a St. Catharines residence.

    On April 10, 2025, 1 District uniform officers attended a residence in the area of Read Road and Lakeshore Road in St. Catharines following a report of theft. The complainant advised officers they had recently returned home after being out of the country. Upon their return, they discovered several pieces of jewellery had been stolen from within the home.

  • Toronto (Scarborough) Man Wanted Following NRPS Investigation

    In early April 2025, detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) began investigating incidents involving allegations of death threats and criminal harassment.

    The incidents occurred between March and April 2025 in the Niagara Region and involved an adult female victim. As a result of the ongoing investigation, detectives formed grounds to believe the adult male suspect committed the offences. The victim and suspect were previously known to each other.

    Detectives have not yet located the suspect, and an arrest warrant has been issued for Jeremiah Rasheed Pooran, 30, of Toronto. He is wanted for the following Criminal Code offences:
