Applications Open for 2026 Niagara Regional Police Service Citizen Academy

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is pleased to announce the return of its Citizen Police Academy for 2026, continuing to strengthen relationships between police and the community we serve.

Now entering its third year, the academy offers residents a unique, behind-the-scenes look at modern policing in Niagara. Through hands-on activities, interactive presentations, and meaningful conversations with subject matter experts (including senior officers and civilian members) participants will gain a deeper understanding of police operations and community safety efforts.

The Citizen Police Academy is not a police training program, but rather an opportunity to learn, connect, and collaborate. Sessions will explore various aspects of policing, including investigations, traffic enforcement, tactical operations, and more.

NRPS Chief Bill Fordy states:

“The Citizen Police Academy is an incredible opportunity for residents to engage directly with our members and gain a real understanding of modern policing in Niagara. It helps build trust, break down barriers, and strengthen the partnership between police and the community. We’re proud to bring this program back for another year and look forward to connecting with even more residents in 2026.”

The 2026 academy will begin in October (exact date to be announced) and will run every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for eight weeks, followed by a graduation celebration in week nine.

To participate, applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Pass a background security check

• Commit to attending all sessions
