Hundreds of Traffic Stops Reported During Project Safe Start – Niagara

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) along with the Community Oriented Response and Engagement Unit (CORE) participated in a weeklong back-to-school traffic safety initiative called Project Safe Start.

The project goal was to be present at every school across the Niagara Region at various times throughout the week to educate the public about the importance of road safety (especially in school areas) and to enforce the laws where applicable.

Hundreds of traffic stops were initiated, and 188 Provincial Offences Notices (tickets) and 49 Part III court summons were issued for various Highway Traffic Act offences.  152 Warnings were issued.

Eight arrests were made.  One for an outstanding warrant and seven for Controlled Drugs and Substances Act violations.

While the project has officially concluded, the Traffic Enforcement Unit remain active in patrolling and enforcing school areas across the region.
