Male Shot in Fort Erie Along Niagara Boulevard

Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Services (NRPS) 5 District (Fort Erie) Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) are investigating a shooting that occurred on Niagara Boulevard in Fort Erie.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m. police were called to an address on Niagara Boulevard between Bertie Street and Murray Street in Fort Erie, for a report that someone had been shot. Uniformed officers arrived on scene to find a 27-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. Niagara Emergency Medical Services treated the victim and transported him to an out-of-region hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Initial information was obtained indicating that an altercation had taken place between the victim and the suspect, outside of a residence on Niagara Boulevard. The incident escalated to point at which the suspect discharged a firearm at the victim.

Detectives have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Samuel SAWYER of Fort Erie. SAWYER is currently wanted for the following criminal offences:

Discharge Firearm with Intent to Wound
Aggravated Assault
Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm knowingly not holding a license
Mischief Under $5000
Fail to Comply with Release Order

Anyone with information on SAWYER’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service. Detectives believe the shooting to be targeted, however, are asking the public to remain vigilant.

The Forensic Services Unit (FSU) has been called in to process the scene and the road remained closed during that time.
