Niagara Regional Police Service Accepting Applications for 2026 Youth Academy

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Youth Academy, an engaging program designed to introduce young people to the many facets of modern policing while fostering positive relationships between youth and police.

The Youth Academy provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about policing through interactive presentations, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and discussions with both sworn officers and civilian members. Participants will gain valuable insight into the diverse roles within the Niagara Regional Police Service while developing leadership skills and a greater understanding of community safety.

The academy is designed to encourage meaningful dialogue while building trust and inspiring youth to become active and engaged members of their communities.

NRPS Chief Bill Fordy states:

"The Youth Academy provides young people with an opportunity to see policing from a different perspective while building positive relationships with our members. Through hands-on experiences and open conversations, participants gain a greater understanding of the important role policing plays in our community, while learning valuable leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. We look forward to welcoming another group of enthusiastic youth to the academy this fall."

The 2026 Youth Academy will begin in October (exact dates to be announced) and will be held Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for eight weeks, with a special graduation celebration in week nine.

Applicants must:

·         Be enrolled in Grades 7 or 8 during the 2026–2027 school year.

·         Be able to attend all scheduled sessions.

·         Have an interest in learning about policing and community safety.

·         Submit a 200-word essay (attachment) as to why they would like to participate in the Youth Academy.

Participation in the Youth Academy is free of charge.
