NRPS Conducts RIDE Checkpoint in Port Colborne

On Friday, July 31, 2026, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) conducted R.I.D.E spot checks in the City of Port Colborne as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and deter impaired driving.

During the initiative, approximately 425 vehicles were stopped, and drivers were asked if they had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening.

As a result:

• 26 drivers were required to provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD); 
• One driver was arrested and charged with impaired operation;
• Three drivers received seven-day driver's licence suspensions after registering an "Alert" reading on the ASD; and
• Eight Provincial Offence Notices were issued for offences under the Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, and Liquor Licence and Control Act.
• The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.
