NRPS RIDE Checks Result in Impaired Driving Arrests and Licence Suspensions

On Saturday, September 5, 2026, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot checks in the area of Gorham Road and Garrison Road in the Town of Fort Erie, as well as at various locations throughout the Niagara Region.

Throughout the evening, officers stopped more than 400 vehicles, with 36 drivers required to provide roadside breath samples.

A 49-year-old woman failed or refused to comply with a roadside breath demand. She was arrested and her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

A 49-year-old man provided breath samples indicating a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days.

Five additional drivers provided breath samples within the “Alert” range and, as a result, had their driver’s licences suspended for seven days.

A 17-year-old novice driver with a G2 licence provided a breath sample indicating the presence of alcohol. As novice drivers are subject to a zero blood alcohol concentration requirement, the driver was charged and their licence was suspended.

Officers also issued 14 Provincial Offence Notices for various offences.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving through education, prevention and enforcement initiatives such as RIDE.

Drivers are reminded that impaired driving is preventable. Anyone who consumes alcohol or drugs should plan ahead for a safe ride home and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
