Operation Impact R.I.D.E. Spot Check – Niagara Falls
On Friday, October 9, 2026, officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks in the city of Niagara Falls, as part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) initiative, Operation Impact.
Throughout the night, officers stopped approximately 550 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs prior to driving. In total, 8 drivers had to provide a sample of their breath for analysis. None of the breath samples were over the allowable legal limit resulting in no criminal charges being laid.
Six Part III Summons and seven Provincial Offence Notices were issued during the spot check for various Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, and Cannabis Control Act offences. Some of the offences included driving without insurance, surrendering false evidence of insurance, using unauthorized licence plates, failing to properly secure an infant, and having cannabis readily accessible.
Apart from the spot check, over the course of the weekend, three impaired operation arrests were made; two for alcohol and one for drugs.
The NRPS Traffic Enforcement Unit would like to thank everyone who helped keep the roads of Niagara safe this holiday weekend, by not driving impaired, distracted or dangerously and by ensuring the proper use of seatbelts.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.
