Media Release: Proactive Traffic Stop Results in Drug Trafficking Arrest - Welland
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 3 District (Welland/Pelham) uniform officers were conducting proactive patrol in the area of East Main Street in the City of Welland.
3 District officers conducted a traffic stop with a white GMC Sierra on Dorothy Street. The driver was subsequently arrested for using plates not authorized for the vehicle. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest resulted in the following seizure:
- 16.4 grams suspected Methamphetamine
- 0.6 grams suspected Fentanyl
- 72.6 grams suspected Cocaine
- 35 Morphine Tablets
- 48 Hydromorphone Tablets
- 68 Oxycodone Tablets
- 4.6 grams suspected MDMA
- 3 grams suspected LSD
- 32.9 grams Cannabis
- 111 Tablets of unknown substance
- 3 Stolen Ontario License Plates
- Expandable Baton
- 2 Knives
- Machete
- Materials consistent with the illegal trafficking of drugs
- $15 in Canadian Currency
39-year-old Trevor MCLAREN of Welland is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (7 counts)
- Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 (2 counts)
- Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance
- Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
- Fail to Signal for Turn
- Fail to Have Insurance Card
34-year-old Mario MICHIENZI of Welland is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (7 counts)
- Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
- Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance
- Fail to Property Wear Seatbelt
MCLAREN and MICHIENZI both attended a bail hearing on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St Catharines.
