RIDE Initiative Results in Impaired Operation Arrest and 3 Suspensions - St Catharines

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted a RIDE spot checks in the areas of Sunset Beach and Lakeside Park Beach, in the City of St. Catharines.

In total, officers stopped approximately 450 vehicles to check for the driver’s sobriety.  15 drivers were required to provide a roadside sample of their breath.  As a result of providing a sample in the “Alert” range, 3 drivers had their licence suspended for 7 days.

One driver, a 20-year-old male from Niagara Falls, was charged for Impaired Operation and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance. Additionally, another driver was charged for driving while suspended.  Officers also issued Provincial Offence Notices for other offences including having liquor readily available, novice driver BAC above zero, no insurance and two drivers charged for failing to surrender a licence.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like RIDE.

Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.

This initiative has been made possible, in part, because of funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.
