Single Vehicle Collision Results in Serious Injuries – Witnesses Sought – Thorold

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, shortly after midnight, uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) were called to a report of a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Merrittville Highway and Beaverdams Road in Thorold.

Officers arrived on scene with Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Thorold Fire and Emergency Services to find a heavily damaged, single motor vehicle, with a lone occupant.  The single occupant (driver), a 20-year-old Hamilton resident, was transported to an out-of-region hospital with what was described as serious injuries. 

The roads in the area were closed for the NRPS Collison Reconstruction Unit (CRU) to process the scene.  Their investigation revealed that the vehicle, a white 2015 Ford Fusion, was travelling westbound on Beaverdams Road and as it approached the intersection of Merrittville Highway, lost control and left the roadway.  No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The cause of the collision, and circumstances surrounding it, are still under investigation.  Detectives with the CRU are making a public appeal for any witnesses or for anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area during the time around the collision, to contact them.
