St Catharines Male Arrested in Homicide – SIU Investigating
On Friday, August 7, 2026, at approximately 11:50 AM, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District (St Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers responded to an address on Lakeshore Road in the City of St Catharines for an assault call for service.
Investigating officers located a male victim with traumatic injuries. The victim was rushed to local hospital by Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) however he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect was located at a residence nearby and was arrested by members of the Emergency Task Unit (ETU). The suspect suffered an injury and was transported to hospital. The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and have invoked their mandate.
34-year-old Brandon MARZEC of St Catharines is charged with the following criminal offence:
- 2nd Degree Murder
MARZEC remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in St Catharines.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information is asked to contact the Special Investigations Unit at 1 (800) 787-8529. As the SIU (Special Investigation Unit) has invoked its mandate, the NRPS is prohibited from releasing further details. The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
