Update 1 - Male Killed in Port Colborne Shooting
Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Homicide Unit continue to investigate a fatal shooting which took place in the evening of October 8, 2026, at a Fares Street address in Port Colborne.
The victim has been identified as a 31-year-old Niagara Falls male.
30-year-old Tyler HAAS of Port Colborne has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.
Detectives advise that this is an isolated incident and that the victim and accused were known to each other. There are no outstanding suspects being sought in this investigation. Details on the circumstances around the motive for the shooting remain part of the active investigation.
The scene has been held for the Forensic Services Unit to process.

Original Media Release - Male Killed in Port Colborne Shooting
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 6:35 p.m., uniformed officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 6 District (Port Colborne/Wainfleet) responded to a report of a shooting at a Fares Street address north of Rodney Street in Port Colborne.
Officers arrived on scene with Niagara Emergency Medical Services to find a male suffering from an injury consistent with a gun shot. That male was transported to a local hospital where sadly he succumbed to his injury.
The scene was secured with the assistance of the Emergency Task Unit (ETU) and a 30-year-old Port Colborne male suspect was arrested at the scene. Detectives from the Homicide Unit have taken carriage of the investigation.
The scene is being held for detectives from the Homicide and Forensic Services Units (FSU) to process.
The circumstances surrounding the interaction between the victim and the suspect are still under investigation, however, detectives believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this point pending next of kin notification.
The identity of the accused is being withheld at this point pending investigation into charges.
