Welland Man Arrested After Ramming Police Cruiser
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) uniform officers had several interactions with a male throughout the City of Welland. The male attended an NRPS facility and began acting erratically and subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle.
The suspect male was observed driving in a dangerous manner, and a member of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Woodlawn Road. The male fled the scene, and another traffic stop was attempted nearby by a member of 3 District (Welland/Pelham) uniform patrol. The suspect intentionally rammed a police cruiser and fled the scene.
3 District Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) took carriage of the investigation, and the suspect was identified as 27-year-old Dawson MORENCY. At approximately 5:00 PM, MORENCY was arrested within the residence by the Emergency Task Unit (ETU), with assistance from the Canine Unit.
27-year-old Dawson MORENCY of Welland is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Failure to Stop at Scene of Accident
MORENCY remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in St Catharines.
There were no injuries to the public, officers, or the accused as a result of this incident.
