NIAGARA POLICE SERVICE BOARD WELCOMES NEW PROVINCIAL APPOINTEE
The Niagara Police Service Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian McMullan as a Provincial Appointee to the Board, effective June 11, 2026, for a three-year term. Brian was appointed by Order in Council of the Province of Ontario and succeeds former Board Member Jen Lawson.
Brian brings extensive experience in municipal governance, business leadership, and public service. He served the community for more than 26 years as a St. Catharines City Councillor, Niagara Regional Councillor, and Mayor of St. Catharines from 2006 to 2014. He currently serves as Vice-President, Business Development and Partner with Society Developments, and remains actively involved in a number of community organizations and initiatives.
Board Chair Nyarayi Kapisavanhu welcomed the appointment. “On behalf of the Niagara Police Service Board, I am pleased to welcome Brian McMullan to the Board. Brian’s extensive leadership experience, commitment to public service, and deep understanding of Niagara communities will be valuable assets as we continue our governance role in supporting effective, accountable policing and community safety throughout the Niagara Region.”
Brian said he is honoured to serve the residents of Niagara in this new capacity. “I am grateful for the confidence placed in me through this appointment and look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow Board members, the Chief of Police, and the Niagara Regional Police Service. Community safety is fundamental to the well-being of our residents, and I am committed to supporting strong governance, transparency, and public trust in policing across Niagara.”

The Niagara Police Service Board is the civilian body responsible for governing the Niagara Regional Police Service. It is responsible for ensuring the provision of adequate and effective policing services throughout Niagara Region. Founded in 1971, the Niagara Regional Police Service is Ontario’s oldest regional police service. It serves 12 municipalities across one of the province’s largest geographic policing areas, with approximately 1,200 sworn and civilian members providing policing and public safety services to more than 540,000 residents and an estimated 14 million visitors annually.
