Regional Councillor Bill Steele is currently serving his second term on Regional Council in his role as Mayor of the City of Port Colborne. Prior to becoming Mayor, he served as Ward One Councillor for the City of Port Colborne from 1996 to 2014. In December 2018, he was appointed to the Niagara Regional Police Service Board.  He served as Vice Chair from 2019-2020, and as Board Chair from 2021-2022.

With over four decades of experience in the insurance industry, Member Steele is the owner of C. M. Steele Insurance Brokers Ltd., a longstanding local business established in 1898.

Member Steele has a strong record of community involvement and leadership. He served as President of Port Colborne Minor Hockey from 2002 to 2016 and has contributed to numerous local organizations, including as Past President of the Port Colborne Lions Club and the Port Colborne Jaycees. He has also held roles as Vice-President of the Niagara South Insurance Brokers Association, Board Member of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (1997–2001), and member of the Niagara College Foundation. In addition, he has coached minor hockey locally, including with the Southern Tier Admirals AAA, and served as Chair of the Vale Health and Wellness Centre Building Committee.

He is a member of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario, the Niagara South Insurance Brokers Association, the local Chamber of Commerce, and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

Member Steele lives in Port Colborne with his wife, Debby. Together, they have three sons: Mitch, Mack, and Riley and two grandchildren.
