The investigation by 2 District Niagara Falls detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Service into the armed robbery of a Niagara Falls bank has been ongoing since February of 2023. 

On February 23rd, 2023, at 8:01pm officers responded to the Meridian Credit Union, located at 4780 Portage Road, in the City of Niagara Falls regarding an armed robbery that just occurred.  The initial investigation determined two male suspects entered the bank, brandished a handgun, and demanded cash from the employees.  The suspects received an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.  No employees received any physical injuries.

Suspect #1 is described as follows:

-        Black male

-        50 years of age

-        6’0” tall, slim build

-        Wearing a black mask

-        Wearing a black jacket

-        Wearing black gloves

-        Wearing dark grey pants

-        Wearing black shoes

Suspect #2 is described as follows:

-        Black male

-        30 years of age

-        5’9” tall, medium build

-        Wearing a mask

-        Wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with “BARRIE” on the left chest and a maple leaf logo underneath

-        Wearing black pants

-        Wearing burgundy shoes

The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a white Dodge Caravan with stolen licence plates.

The Meridian Bank is offering a $30,000.00 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible.

Update 1 - March 2, 2023

Niagara Regional Police Service detectives assigned to 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara-on-the-Lake) continue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred at the Meridian Credit Union, located at 4780 Portage Road, in the City of Niagara Falls on February 23rd, 2023.

Additional images have been obtained and detectives are appealing to members of the public for assistance identifying both the suspects and the suspect vehicle.

The white Dodge Caravan used during the commission of the offence was bearing Ontario registration #CSCS014.  It has since been determined those licence plates were stolen on February 15th, 2023, from an address on Scott Street near Meadowvale Drive, in the City of St. Catharines.  Both the stolen licence plates and the white Dodge Caravan remain outstanding.

-          Black

-          Approximately 6’0” tall

Suspect #2 is described as:

-          Male

-          Black

-          Approximately 5’9” tall

-          Wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with BARRIE on the left chest and a red maple leaf logo underneath

 

The Meridian Credit Union is offering a $15,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

Upon arrival, officers determined two male suspects entered the bank, brandished a handgun, and demanded cash from the employees.  The suspects received an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency.  No employees received any physical injuries.

 

Detectives assigned to the 2 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation.  They are being supported by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.
