On July 2, 2022, at approximately 10:07pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 2 District Niagara Falls uniform officers and emergency services personnel responded to a report of pedestrian having been struck in Niagara Falls (Chippawa).

Officers arrived on scene at the intersection of Welland Street and Willoughby Drive to find a female pedestrian in critical condition.  The female victim in her 70s was treated on scene by bystanders, members of the Niagara Falls Fire Service and Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics.  The victim was transported from the scene by paramedics and despite resuscitative efforts at a local hospital she was pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted by detectives from the Forensic Services Unit have been assigned to the investigation and are actively investigating.  The initial investigation has determined that the victim had been crossing the road when she was struck by a pickup truck.  The truck then fled the area without stopping to check on the victim.

Detectives have seized what they believe to be the suspect vehicle this afternoon in Niagara Falls.

The identity of the deceased is not being released.
