Saturday Night R.I.D.E in Niagara Falls

During the evening hours on Saturday April 27^th, 2024, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 2 District  Niagara Falls/N-O-T-L “C” Platoon partnered with the Traffic Enforcement Unit to conducted a R.I.D.E. spot check in the City of Niagara Falls.

Throughout the night, officers stopped approximately 300 vehicles and inquired if any of the drivers had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening.  In total, 20 drivers were required to provide a sample of their breath for analysis.

At 10:30 pm officers interacted with a driver who had recently consumed a quantity of cannabis. A demand was made to participate in a standard field sobriety test (SFST) which revealed the driver to be sober and fit to operate his vehicle. A charge contrary to the Cannabis Control Act 2017 was issued for having Cannabis readily available in the vehicle.

Additionally, 19 Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) were issued contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offence through education and the apprehension of offenders by way of enforcement programs such as R.I.D.E.

Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
