NOTE:

STEP 1:

PRE-INTERVIEW ASSESSMENT STAGE                   

Completed through the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (www.oacpcertificate.ca).

STEP 2:

SUBMIT APPLICATION ONLINE

    Include ONLY the following:

  1. Cover Letter and Resume
  2. Certificate of Results (Obtained through Applicant Testing Services if still valid as of January 1, 2020). Please see attached equivalency guide.
  3. OACP Certificate Results from www.oacpcertificate.ca will be obtained by the Recruiting Unit upon receipt of your application  from the OACP. Please Note: If any portion of  your Certificate of Results through ATS is expired, with the exception of the PREP, you must complete the new testing through www.oacpcertificate.ca.
  4. Completed Fitness Logs (see attached Instructions and Fitness Log) for 2 weeks.
  5. First Aid/CPR Certificate – Level 'C'
  6. All transcripts (High School & Post-Secondary even if only partially completed)
  7. Consent and Release of Liability Waiver signed and witnessed
  8. Vision & Hearing Assessment Form

STEP 3:

WRITTEN LOCAL FOCUS INTERVIEW AND PRE-BACKGROUND QUESTIONNAIRE (PBQ)

   Behavioural Questions at this stage will be based on the Developmental Competencies.

STEP 4:

FACE-TO-FACE LOCAL FOCUS INTERVIEW

   Behavioural Questions at this stage will be based on the Developmental Competencies.

STEP 5:

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCY INTERVIEW

   Behavioural Questions at this stage will be based on the Essential Competencies.

STEP 6:

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

   Included in this step:

  • Background Investigator Assigned and in depth investigation complete 
  • Psychological Assessment Phase (Questionnaire & Face-to-Face interview with Psychologist)
  • Medical Examination
  • Freedom of Information Driver Record Search 

   (Must be COMPLETE AND CERTIFIED and not the 3 or 5 year abstract)

   *If you have held a drivers licence in another province, territory or country, those abstracts must be provided to background investigator.

STEP 7:

PHYSICAL TESTING

Applicants will be required to complete the police fitness PIN test.  This test involves four components: core endurance, push ups, flexibility, and running (shuttle run). This will give us the opportunity to assess your fitness levels as well as your ability to successfully complete the physical testing at the Ontario Police College. 

You will need to score at least 70% to pass the test.  For detailed instructions on how to perform the test and how the test is scored, download the police fitness test manual.  Applicants are encouraged to practice the four components of the test to assess their fitness levels before attending this test. 

STEP 8:

CHIEF'S BOARD INTERVIEW      

   Applicants will be interviewed by the Chief of Police and both Deputy Chiefs (or designates) to determine suitability for hire.

STEP 9:

OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT

   Applicants who are given an offer of employment will be scheduled for Pre-Ontario Police College training at the Training Unit and prepared for training at the Ontario Police College.
