REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF NIAGARA POLICE SERVICES BOARD (PSB) APPOINTS NEW CHIEF OF POLICE

(Niagara Region, ON) – Jen Lawson, Chair of the Regional Municipality of Niagara Police Services Board, announced today that the Board has selected Bill Fordy as the new Chief of Police for the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS).  Bill Fordy is currently the Deputy Chief of Police, Support Services, with the NRPS.  He will begin his role as Chief of the NRPS effective February 1, 2024.

Grandparent Scam Uptick in St. Catharines

The Niagara Regional Police Service has determined that there is currently an increased number of Grandparent Scam incidents in St. Catharines (particularly the north end).

Over the last week there have been at least five attempts and one completed incident where a victim lost $6000.

As we get further into the holiday season scammers may increase their efforts.  Scammers may attempt to appeal to the “family holiday” theme to add pressure to vulnerable victims.
