In April of 2020, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service's Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) commenced an investigation into the sexual exploitation of children.
The investigation into the child exploitation material led to a St. Catharines residence. In September of 2020, members assigned to the Niagara Regional Police Service's I.C.E. Unit and Technological Crime Unit, concluded their investigation, which resulted in the identification of a suspect.

On Wednesday, September 16th, at approximately 12:30am, 2 District (Niagara Falls) Uniform Officers, attended the area of Willmott Street and Second Avenue, in the City of Niagara Falls, for reports of an assault.
When officers arrived, they discovered a 30 year old male, with injuries. The male was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
On September 16th, 2020, the suspect was arrested.

On August 25th, 2020, at approximately 7:05pm, 3 District (Welland) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), responded to a weapons call in the area of Colbeck Drive and Stormm Court, in the City of Welland.

On Friday, September 11th, 2020, at approximately 12:40pm, 1 District (St. Catharines ) Uniform Officers, attended the Burgoyne Woods Park, in the City of St. Catharines, regarding possible human remains.
A member of the public contacted the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) when they located the remains, on a hike.
Investigation revealed that the remains were in fact human.
The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed.
