At approximately 4:30pm on Tuesday December 31, 2019 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers were called to the area of Rykert St and Edith St in the City of St. Catharines following the report of a male armed with a knife.
When officers arrived on scene, an altercation ensued during which the male was shot. The 56-year-old male has been transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The SIU has been contacted and has invoked their investigative mandate.

A Hamilton woman is facing charges following an investigation into an altercation that occurred in a Niagara on the Lake Parking lot December 26, 2019.
The incident was reported to 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers on December 26, 2019. Subsequent investigation revealed that there was an altercation between two females over a parking spot at the Niagara on the Lake Outlet Mall.

On Sunday December 29, 2019, uniform officers from the 1 District St. Catharines office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) were called to a building complex on Scott Street in the north end of St. Catharines.
