Traffic Collision - Fatal Collision in Welland

On Tuesday, November 6th, 2018 at approximately 7:36 p.m. the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Welland Fire Services responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Thorold Road near Centennial Drive in the City of Welland, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.
 
Initial investigation revealed that a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt motor vehicle was being driven eastbound on Thorold Road by a 71-year-old Welland male. This driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed the westbound lane of traffic and struck a large tree on the north side of Thorold Road. Another motorist flagged down a passing paramedic supervisor who quickly attended to the single occupant.
 
The driver was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced.
 
This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner's Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
