Other - CopShop 2017

Posted on Tuesday December 05, 2017
Their day job is protecting the streets of the Niagara Region, but on Wednesday, December 6th, approximately 50 area police officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Niagara Parks Police and CN Police have volunteered to take on the role of personal shoppers to 47 amazing local children.

The day begins when 47 children will travel in style as they experience their first limo ride thanks to the generosity of Coventry Transportation.  Armed with Christmas wish lists, each child will be paired with a police officer when they arrive, and enjoy some bonding time over pizza & juice as they prepare to shop with a $200 Pen Centre gift card donated to each child by the Pen Centre.

This is an excellent opportunity for our officers to spend time with children in our community," says Chief Bryan MacCulloch from the Niagara Regional Police Service. This longstanding partnership through CopShop underscores the importance of community engagement to us and allows our officers to have a meaningful impact on the lives of some of the youngest members of our Region."

The children chosen for Cop Shop were recommended by their school principals and were selected because of need, recognition of specific academic or sports achievement or because of volunteer efforts that are making a difference in the community.

Cop Shop is a program that we are incredibly proud to host each year  says Helen Edwards, Marketing Director.  Witnessing these amazing kids bond with Niagara Regional Police Services Officers, who have all volunteered to participate, is a truly magical experience and one that we hope to continue for years to come.

This is the 11th year for the CopShop program at the Pen Centre. Seven other shopping centers managed by 20VIC Management across Canada are also hosting their own CopShop events on December 6th.  Approximately 350 children across Canada will benefit from this years event.
