male and female looking at a computer screenThe Technological Crime Unit provides expertise in obtaining evidence from a vast array of digital devices such as computers, cell phones, and tablets that are used to commit crimes. The Technological Crime Unit is an important resource to all of the investigative units in the NRPS. The unit is currently staffed with three detective constables and was formed in 2005.

 

Mandate

The Technological Crime Unit provides specialized technical support to a number of investigative units within the NRPS. Individual investigators request that the Tech Unit become involved with an investigation after the matter has been reported to the NRPS. The Unit conducts forensic examinations of computers, cell phones, tablets, and other electronic devices that may contain evidence to support a criminal investigation. The three detective constables in this unit are highly trained in the area of Computer Investigations, Computer Technology, Major Case Management, and Search Warrants.
